Westjet company was founded by Clive Beddoe in 1996. They started company with three aircrafts and now grown to the second largest Canadian carrier. The reason for their success is their slogan “Because Owners care! (Suzanne), which means westJet employees has the responsibility to provide great customer experience. WestJet has its values, corporate culture, vision and mission built around their slogan. Westjet has succeeded in providing a safe, friendly and affordable air travel. Which makes them Canada’s Top 10 Most Admired Corporate cultures four years in a row. Westjet entered the Hall of Fame in 2010, awarded in 2011 J.D. Power Customer Service Champion, Canadian airline with the best flight attendants. West jet has come to these accomplishments due to their great corporate culture.
Employee empowerment is one of the key organization behavior concepts that we can find inside westJet corporate culture. According to article by Platt “WestJet's employee empowerment program is unique it offers every WestJetter, regardless of position, the opportunity to be the "CEO of the Moment" (Empower Your Employees, 2013).Employees have the authority to make decision and will be responsible for their actions. If the employees have the freedom to make decision according to their needs they will be more creative. The feeling of power gives more satisfaction and inspires them to work harder. Another reason for the employees to work hard is extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. west jet offer some extrinsic rewards to their employees such as “One of the most lucrative share purchase plans in Canada, Purchase up to 20% of your gross salary in WestJet shares and we’ll match your contribution, dollar for dollar.” (Suzanne).

This keeps their employees motivated to put their best effort, because they feel that instead of working for the company they own the company. Westjet has the motto to provide lowest fare, therefore it is reasonable to assume that westjet employees are paid less compared to their competitor companies. still willing to work due to extrinsic, intrinsic motivation and corporate culture. To conclude, the main reason for the success of Westjet is the dedication of all their employees towards work, which is due to employee empowerment and motivation provided by the Westjet Company.
