Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation was found by Toronto pharmacist Murray Koffler, in
1962. Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation is the of
full-service retail drug stores operating under the name Shoppers Drug Mart (Pharmaprix in Québec). It has
1,237 Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada, which makes them the leading company
in retail drug stores. Most of their stores are operated individually by
associate owners, which helped company to build a strong brand image through
great service, trust and values. Shoppers Drug
Mart is known for their pharmacy products, but also provides quality
health and beauty aids, cosmetics and fragrances and comparatively priced everyday
household essentials. Shoppers Drug Mart has won Canada’s 10 Most Admired
Corporate Cultures award, because of their strong culture and corporate social
Responsibility.
Shoppers Drug Mart is aware of their responsibility towards the environment. They engage their employees and customers in various programs to reduce waste and using environment friendly products. For example “Our goal is to help eliminate and reduce the volume of waste destined for landfills through the implementation of cost-effective diversion programs. This past year we achieved a 6% increase in total waste diversion throughout the Company and across the store network. We are pleased that our waste diversion programs continue to deliver positive gains despite growth in our overall store base. In 2009, we recycled 834 tonnes of plastic and aluminum and 27,533 tonnes of fibre, saving the equivalent of more than 446,773 trees” (Employee relation).

According to Shoppers Drug Mart article employee relations “Participation in our second annual employee engagement survey improved by over 17% to 82%, helping us to gain a better understanding of employee sentiments and satisfaction with their work environment and their engagement with the Company. This year’s results indicate that employees are proud of Shoppers Drug Mart and believe that we operate ethically and with integrity” (Employee relation, 2012). These programs provide employee satisfaction and great work environment.
